There could actually be a noticeable bit of commercial development in Erie if a second Safeway off of Hwy 7 continues to gather momentum. However, Safeway is only interested in doing so if a link to the north can be made so there's easier traffic access to the center of town. This of course has some residents upset. Predictably, additional traffic concerns are raised. More convenient groceries? Sales tax for Erie's laundry list of projects? Jobs? None of these are good enough reasons for a handful of folks around the Erie AirPark.
You can read more about it in the Erie Review.

It wasn't that long ago (3 months) that the HONORABLE (caps here indicate sarcasm) Mayor Moore chided Lafayette Council that they should show their backbone and stand up against Lowe's and tell them they had to be on 287 to get approval? How about the wringing of hands and nashing of teeth on what it would do to traffic on Hwy 7? The threats of tanking the bypass if Lafayette approved this? Excussssse me! These types of proposals don't spring up overnight, so Mayor Moore was well aware of Safeway's intentions when he morphed into the champion of righteousness! Hypocrisy, thy name is Moore!
Agreeing with Anonymous that Andrew Moore had no more business sticking his head into the Lowe's Waneka situation than Lafayette's city council would have taking a stand on the Erie Airpark, Safeway issue.
Agree, but if I were a member of the Lafayette Council I would be fighting an overwhelming urge to write a letter to the newspapers similar to the one he wrote 3 months ago....
