Run For Commissioner, Appoint Your Successor?
There must be a rule against it, but perhaps it never came up before: I noticed in the Camera article about all the potential County Commissioner candidates that two are in posts that would be filled by appointments if they are vacated. But they're filled by a decision of the County Commissioners. So If Cindy Domenico, County Assessor wins the election, she would be able to weigh in on the appointment of her successor? I'm checking to see if this is the case; if you know let me know.

Yes, that's the way it's worked before, I'm pretty sure...
I understand the point, but then again, who would know the qualifications of an assessor better than the former assessor, if that ends up being the case?
Does anyone think Weissmann's late entry had to do with an orchestrated plan?
FDR said nothing happens in politics by accident.
Alex - I know, your point is well taken. It would have to involve a series of connections, i.e. the appointed person is somehow connected to the main proponent of the new Commissioner. In the end, is the Assessor's position even one that wields power? Or the other case - a County Planning Commissioner spot? probably not. I'm reading too many national politics news sites I guess...
Weissman's late entry - probably once he learned Don Brown wasn't going for it, he may have been able to assume Don's support base? Is there a Don Brown support base?
I was told today that Ron Stewart had beEN a state senator before becoming a county commish.
I believe the opposite. Don Brown dropped out after hearing Weissmann was jumping in.
Now we'll see how the dominos fall or rise.
Don Brown owns a highly profitable business and at this point in time could not afford to take the financial hit. His young family is paramount at this point in his life. As stated before this is good news for us in Louisville as he is needed more now than ever before.
Yes, Don Brown has a support base. Weissmann's candidacy adds a new dimension. He being the strongest of the group (yes, I did give Cindy D. the early nod). This will be interesting.
Isn't it interesting that the candidates who are dropping out cite family, job, and other commitments?
So we are led to believe they did not weight all of this before they jumped in. If they did and changed their minds, they are being disingenuous. If they thought of these reasons after jumping in, they exercised poor judgement. So would they be qualified for the job?
Of course others are overstating their qualifications.
We'll know Monday night.
